India - Gelombang tsunami COVID-19 di India kian parah. Penambahan kasus harian terus mencetak rekor dunia berturut-turut. Kremasi pun dilakukan secara massal.

Orang-orang melakukan ritual di samping tumpukan kayu pemakaman anggota keluarga yang meninggal karena COVID-19 di New Delhi, India.

Gelombang tsunami COVID-19 di India kian parah. Penambahan kasus harian terus mencetak rekor dunia berturut-turut, dengan data terbaru mencatat ada 353 rb pasien COVID-19 baru pada Senin (26/4/2021).

Korban meninggal bisa mencapai 2.624 orang dalam sehari. Diprediksi di Ibu Kota Delhi saja bisa ada satu orang meninggal karena COVID-19 setiap lima menit.

Begitu banyaknya mayat yang bergelimpangan di India sampai-sampai layanan penguburan dan kremasi kewalahan.

Seorang warga Delhi, Nitish Kumar, mengaku kesulitan mencari tempat kremasi untuk ibunya yang sudah meninggal karena COVID-19. Ia terpaksa membiarkan jenazah sang ibu selama dua hari di rumah.

Sampai pada akhirnya Kumar menemukan tempat kremasi massal darurat di lapangan parkir. Di sana orang ramai-ramai membakar jenazah dengan tumpukan kayu.

Jitender Singh Shunty dari organisasi nirlaba medis Shaheed Bhagat Singh Sewa Dal mengatakan pada hari itu ada 60 jenazah yang dibakar di lapangan. Jenazah yang dibakar mulai dari pasangan baru menikah, anak-anak 15 tahun, bahkan sampai balita.
