Ucayali - Saat COVID-19 menyebar dengan cepat di pedalaman Amazon, Peru, suku pedalaman Shipibo memutuskan untuk beralih ke pengobatan tradisional leluhur mereka.

Suku di pedalaman hutan Amazon di Ucayali, Peru, merupakan salah satu yang terdampak COVID-19.

Rumah sakit yang jauh, kekurangan dokter, dan kehabisan tempat tidur menjadi alasan suku pedalaman ini menggunakan pengobatan tradisional warisan leluhur untuk melawan virus Corona.

Selain itu, para penduduk juga tidak yakin dengan obat-obatan kimia buatan rumah sakit.

Peru yang merupakan negara dengan tingkat kematian akibat COVID-19 tertinggi di dunia telah memaksa banyak kelompok pribumi untuk menemukan pengobatan mereka sendiri.

Para penduduk membuat ramuan dari tanaman obat dan bahan lain yang dikumpulkan dari hutan.

Setelahnya ramuan direbus dan kemudian uapnya dihirup oleh pasien COVID-19.

Mereka juga membuat jamu dari rebusan bawang merah dan jahe untuk melancarkan jalur pernafasan.

Di wilayah Ucayali, tim tanggap cepat pemerintah yang dikerahkan ke segelintir masyarakat adat telah menyatakan sebanyak 80% penduduk adat terinfeksi COVID-19.

Pengembangan Hutan Hujan Peru, mengatakan bahwa dari sekitar 500.000 orang Pribumi yang tinggal di Amazon, kelompoknya memperkirakan bahwa 147.000 telah terinfeksi oleh virus tersebut dan 3.000 telah meninggal.

Namun, tingkat penyembuhan pasien Corona menggunakan pengobatan tradisional tidak terlalu tinggi.

Sebuah tim pemerintah melakukan perjalanan dari satu rumah sederhana beratap jerami ke rumah berikutnya, mengambil jasad orang-orang yang sudah meninggal dari tempat tidur dan kursi tempat mereka mengambil napas terakhir.

Penggali kubur disana mengatakan dia dan kru penggali kubur lain bisa mengubur hingga 30 orang sehari.
