COVID-19 di India kian mengganas. Korban yang meninggal akibat virus Corona di negara itu bisa mencapai 2.000-an orang dalam sehari.

Dikutip dari Al Jazeera, pada hari Senin (26/4/2021), India melaporkan sebanyak 2.812 orang meninggal akibat COVID-19. Dengan jumlah tersebut, saat ini kasus kematian Corona di India sudah mencapai 195.123 orang.

Tak hanya itu, selama lima hari berturut-turut pun penambahan kasus COVID-19 di India berada di atas 300.000 kasus dalam sehari.

Lonjakan kasus COVID-19 ini membuat India tampak sangat menderita. Hal tersebut bisa dilihat dari banyaknya mayat yang bergelimpangan sampai-sampai layanan penguburan dan kremasi menjadi kewalahan.

Di Kota Delhi, korban meninggal akibat COVID-19 sampai harus dikremasi secara massal. Pihak berwenang pun sampai diminta untuk menebang pohon di taman kota untuk membantu proses kremasi korban COVID-19.

Banyaknya jumlah korban meninggal ini membuat masyarakat harus rela untuk melewatkan upacara pemakaman dan ritual lengkap dalam proses kremasi yang diyakini oleh umat Hindu.

"Kami hanya membakar mayat saat mereka tiba," kata Mamtesh Sharma, seorang pejabat di krematorium Bhadbhada Vishram Ghat.

"Seolah-olah kita berada di tengah perang," lanjutnya.

Di sisi lain, seorang kepala penggali kubur di pemakaman Muslim terbesar di Kota Delhi juga mengatakan hal serupa. Menurutnya, saat ini lebih banyak jenazah pasien Corona yang dikubur daripada tahun lalu.

"Saya khawatir kita akan segera kehabisan ruang," ucap Mohammad Shameem.
